Updates, awareness, and stories of hope

In many parts of Northern Ghana, ageing is accompanied by profound spiritual and cultural narratives. While elderhood has traditionally been respected, cognitive decline—specifically dementia—is often misunderstood. Because memory loss and confusion alter behavior, elderly citizens are sometimes subjected to stigma, neglect, or harmful accusations.
At the Anaalie Legacy Foundation (ALF), we believe that every elder deserves to live their twilight years in safety, comfort, and dignity. Overcoming this deep-seated stigma is one of our primary missions in Tamale and surrounding districts.
Our approach is centered on community-led education. We host town hall dialogues and workshops bringing together:
During these sessions, we explain that dementia is not a curse or witchcraft, but a progressive medical condition. When families understand the biology behind memory loss and mood shifts, fear is replaced by empathy and proactive care.
The results of our recent Tamale Town Hall have been deeply encouraging. Local leaders have pledged their support to protect elders showing symptoms of confusion. "We must protect those who shaped our past," remarked one community leader. Together, we are building a safer Tamale where no elder has to age in fear.
Dedicated to providing dementia awareness, support for caregivers, and compassionate care outreach across Ghana.
