Updates, awareness, and stories of hope

Behind almost every vulnerable older person is a family member carrying the heavy, silent responsibility of their daily care. Family caregivers are the unsung heroes of Northern Ghana. Without professional training, financial support, or regular breaks, they manage high-stress environments, often leading to physical and emotional burnout.
Caring for a parent who no longer remembers your name or requires help with basic needs is emotionally exhausting. That is why ALF does not just support the elders—we walk alongside the caregivers.
ALF has established monthly **Caregiver Support Circles** across Tamale. These meetings provide a safe space where caregivers can:
"The support group saved my sanity," says Fatima, a full-time caregiver. "I realized I wasn't alone, and I wasn't a bad daughter for feeling overwhelmed. That understanding changed everything."
Our volunteers also step in to provide respite care, staying with elders for a few hours so caregivers can rest, run errands, or simply breathe. Empowering caregivers is essential to sustaining the health and safety of our entire community.
Dedicated to providing dementia awareness, support for caregivers, and compassionate care outreach across Ghana.
